360 Degree Photography

Siem Reap, Cambodia

In my opinion, 360-degree photography is the most honest way to showcase small and large spaces.

Professionally speaking, this type of imagery is used to create online and immersive supports for all kinds of establishments focusing on their online communication.

Their uses are typically to create virtual projects, also for places with a Google Business account, online travel agencies and social network platforms.

Image Resolution

What does image resolution means?

It’s the depth of an image that can be zoomed-in without losing details.

De facto, the more an image stays sharp when zooming in, the more it has an high resolution.

Julien’s services offer 360° imagery with megapixel and gigapixel image resolution.

Megapixel Image

It is the standard resolution of Julien’s imagery services.
Here, the resolution is 288 megapixels which provides excellent zoom quality.

Gigapixel Image

It is the ‘Rolls-Royce’ resolution of Julien’s services!
Here, the image resolution reaches 1,3 gigapixels which provides outstanding zoom quality.

Zoom in on the small texts.

You are now sure to know that image resolution has nothing to do with the beauty of an image (its colors, contrast, etc.).

Flat 360 Degree Photos

Before being able to rotate a 360 photo in 360º, such images are first of all ‘flats images’.

Know that native computers and devices aren’t built to rotate 360º images.

Tiny Planets

Sometimes we can see “tiny planets” (also called mini planets) on the Internet, and those images are created from 360 degree photographs.

Technically speaking, this result is created by using a “stereographic projection” on 360 degree photos, allowing professional photographers to turn them in such ways!

few clarifications

• A 3D photo IS NOT 360 degree photo. Simply said it's a wrong wording.
• A 360° panorama is not considered as a 360 degree photo. A panorama means that its highest and lowest parts (its zenith and nadir) are missing.

A 360 degree photo can also be called a VR photo, photo sphere, and spherical photo.

What is a 360 degree photo?

The aspect of interactively viewing an image from its central position.

Tripadvisor Support Team (December, 2023)

“Unfortunately, Tripadvisor does not currently feature any new 360° photos on our accommodation listings.

Although you may noticed some accommodation listings still have 360° photos visible on Tripadvisor, those are very old panoramic photos provided by Tripadvisor. We no longer provide or publish 360° photos now, owners will not be able to upload any 360° photos from the Management Center.”

Each third-party hosting platform has its own policies regarding the medias we publish to their platforms – such as the compression of 360-degree photos, videos, etc.
